Octopuses do have three hearts! Two of these hearts pump blood to the gills, while the third heart pumps it to the rest of the body. Interestingly, the heart that pumps blood to the body stops beating when the octopus swims, which is one reason why octopuses tend to prefer crawling rather than swimming to conserve energy.
